An American Treasure, Africa’s Premier Diva, and More

This season we’re excited to announce dates for a couple of iconic figures in the music world!

Ten-time Grammy Award winner and vocal virtuoso, Bobby McFerrin’s shows have a way about filling you with joy and wonder, and a sudden, irreversible urge to lead a more spontaneous existence. His style is jazz, pop, R&B, classical and world music—or, more accurately, out-of-this-world music—all rolled into one. Catch this American treasure in our own American Treasure, The Music Hall on Saturday, February 29. “Bobby McFerrin’s greatest gift to his audience may be changing them from spectators into celebrants,” says the Los Angeles Times, “transforming a concert hall into a playground, a village center, a joyous space.”

Three-time Grammy Award winner and iconic West African singer, Angelique Kidjo will be touring behind her newest project—an interpretation of the celebrated Talking Heads album Remain in Light.  Recent appearances have taken her to the Hollywood Bowl, opening for Vampire Weekend at Madison Square Garden, Austin City Limits, and Carnegie Hall. Time Magazine calls her “Africa’s premier diva.” The BBC has included her in its list of the continent’s 50 most iconic figures, and in 2011 The Guardian listed her as one of their Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in the World. Forbes Magazine has ranked Angelique as the first woman in its list of the Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa. Buy your tickets early for her Saturday, April 4th appearance!

In the Loft, we welcome balladeer Sam Amidon on August 9, fingerpicking virtuoso Sunny War on September 6, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Staples on September 7.  Don’t miss out—sign up for the enews at TheMusicHall.org and be the first to hear as new shows are announced throughout the season!
