Another Round of Shots!
I participated in an unusual bonding experience with my colleagues recently: we went for shots! Don’t think that’s odd? Just wait. Here’s where it gets weird. HR scheduled the shots for us (and even sent us a calendar reminder). Our destination? The Portsmouth Senior Activity Center. And although we brought our own bartenders, the Portsmouth Fire Department administered our shots. Ah, “administered”! Did I have you fooled? Do you see where I’m going now?
The staff of The Music Hall is fully vaccinated!
A handful of my fellow Music Hall staff members and I, the last of us to get our shots, participated in a COVID vaccination clinic offered by the City of Portsmouth for the hospitality industry. Though I’m playing with the definition of “shots,” “bonding” is still an accurate description. It was a shared experience that brought me closer to my coworkers. We chatted nervously before, a bit more brightly counted off our 15-minute waiting period together, and checked in with each other in the days after to compare side effects.
The Portsmouth Senior Activity Center is lovely, and there was plenty of space for all of us (shout-out to our new friends, the staff of IKKO II Japanese Sushi & Steak House, who were there at the same time!). The fine folks of the Portsmouth FD were friendly—and skilled at speaking calmly while jabbing you with a needle. I wish I got a sticker, like when I do my other civic duty and vote, but now I have an excuse to splurge on one of those Fauci Ouchie pins, or maybe a Team Moderna t-shirt.
On behalf of my Music Hall colleagues, I’d like to thank the City of Portsmouth Health Department for including us, the staff at the Portsmouth Senior Activity Center for being so courteous, and the Portsmouth Fire Department for their exceptional service. We are happy to be back at work, interacting with you, our members and patrons, while doing our part to slow the spread. We hope to see you in the Hall soon!
