Discovering John Moreland
A large scope of my job is to craft/ polish the paragraphs that describe the show that you see on the website and the NOW. In the middle of each month I start researching the upcoming shows, I read their bios, listen to their music, and stalk their facebook to learn everything I can about each and every artist. A few months ago, Thérèse dropped a CD on my desk for an upcoming show. In my research, I kept seeing him described as a “lyrics first songwriter” and I for the life of me couldn’t figure out what that could possibly mean.
I loaded in the CD and after the first song I got it, by the second song I was John Moreland’s newest fan. His thoughtful and haunting lyrics paint such a vivid picture, while his voice is a warm as bourbon. He is pure Americana, a mix of folk, classic rock, and classic country, clearly influenced by Steve Earle and Creedence Clearwater Revival. After months of listening to Taylor Swift, I had finally transitioned High on Tusla Heat his newest album.
Thursday night, John Moreland will be here at the Loft as part of our District Restaurant Singer Songwriter Series and tickets are just $10. I hope you’ll join me
