Dressing for a successful gala
If you’ve been following this blog the last couple of weeks, you’ve read about what inspired the menu (I’m really excited for the pink champagne cocktail cupcakes) and how we transform the Historic Theater into a one of a kind party. Today, I thought I’d share a little bit about what to expect.
When I first joined the Gala Committee three years ago, I was a little stressed about the 1920’s Speakeasy theme that we had chosen. I was pretty sure that I didn’t have anything in my closet that even came close to making me look like a flapper and had no idea where to go to find the right dress. Thankfully, Ashleigh Tucker Pollock (the creative genius behind these parties) explained to me that while we transform our stage and plan out elaborate menus, we don’t have to dress in period costumes. I wore a black dress with pink sparkle heels and fit in perfectly.
This year, as we time travel to the 1950s, we decided on a simple cocktail party theme. This way, as long as you were dressed for a cocktail party, you were in theme. As of today, I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to wear, but I’m sure it will be one of many cocktail dresses.
I hope that you’ll dust off your favorite cocktail dress, or for you gentlemen who read this blog, your favorite suit, and join me at “An Affair to Remember” this Saturday night.
