Freewaves Friday for August 3, 2018
I’ve been doing a bit of traveling this summer. There is something about leaving the familiarity and creature comforts of one’s daily life that is exhilarating and rejuvenating. I’m always happy to find myself out on the road in discovery mode but never sorry to return to the Seacoast where I can take my experiences and share them with others.
As I sit down to create this week’s playlist – I am thrilled by the musical diversity we are exposed to at 91.3 FM WUNH, Durham. At The Music Hall, we work hard to create an exciting and diverse mix of programming.
In just a couple of weeks on Saturday, August 18, Brazil’s Seu Jorge takes to The Music Hall stage to perform his bossa nova and samba hits. Thievery Corporation will make their appearance as part of a national tour on Oct. 10. We can’t wait!
The theme of my show this week is Diversity. If you’ve been listening to the show you won’t be surprised to catch music by saxophonist Kamasi Washington and Argentinean songwriter Juana Molina, bassist Thundercat and Grammy Award-winning artist Angelique Kidjo, Congolese band Jupiter & Okwess and the Cuban rhythms of Orlando ‘Cachaito” Lopez, formerly of the Buena Vista Social Club. I love to dance and this soundtrack has me moving! Have a great weekend and thank you for listening!
