Don’t miss hearing what Portsmouth Music and Arts Center students have been up to during a Youth and Teen Round Robin on Thursday, April 16 at the Loft.
Then join us in the Historic Theater for a dynamic double bill to kick off the weekend: Independent rock musicians Buffalo Tom and The Juliana Hatfield Three. Like many bands that rose to prominence in the 90’s, The Juliana Hatfield Three are reuniting after a significant number of years apart—much to the delight of their fans. This past February, they released their first album in twenty-two years, playing music that has evolved and matured with time. Buffalo Tom inaugurated the Music Hall Loft four years ago in an acclaimed live radio broadcast with two sold out shows, and we can’t wait to hear their uncompromising and rootsy rock & roll on our big stage.
More amazing talent is coming to our Historic Theater on Saturday, April 18 starting at 8pm. The name William Fitzsimmons may be unfamiliar to some—but his songs may not be. Mixing folk with electronica and performed on guitar, banjo, ukulele and mandolin, his music has made its way onto television and radio and earned him rightful comparisons to Iron & Wine and Sufjan Stevens. He opens for Citizen Cope. Rolling Stone writes, “…Cope melds hip-hop with folk, soul and blues…and ‘feels’ this combination deeply….Cope’s uncommon chords and harmonies combine delicate dissonance with unexpected flashes of beauty…” And the Washington Post calls him the “City’s most soulful export since Marvin Gaye.” Each will perform a special solo acoustic show for the first time on our stage.
Also on Saturday, April 18 at 5pm in the Loft, we are thrilled to welcome back Guy Capecelatro III in an artist curated Songwriters in the Round.
Please join us for this special Spring celebration that brings together fans and musicians during one of our favorite times of the year in Portsmouth—when warmer weather, Restaurant Week, and great music make an unbeatable weekend destination. Hope to see you there!
