From ski adventures to arctic plunges: help the Warren Miller team give back
While we love the movies, for us here at The Music Hall, it’s the Warren Miller Road Crew that we look forward to seeing each year. These guys, some of the nicest people we work with, forgo Thanksgivings with their families to be here with us. Instead of complaining, they created their own tradition.
Five years ago, the guys started their now annual Polar Plunge, on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, this year taking place Nov. 22 at noon on Wallis Sands Beach. They ask that you bring a nonperishable food item and then join them in an icy plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. After you plunge, they invite you to an afterparty at Petey’s, where you get to mix and mingle with the guys, and you can order a special priced lobster dinner. The best part of the plunge, all the proceeds go to the Portsmouth Rotary Thanksgiving Dinner at St. Nicholas’ Greek Church. Oh and for the first 20 plungers, they’ll give you tickets to see the 9pm Wednesday night movie.
Not only do they raise money and food for the Rotary Thanksgiving Dinner, they also volunteer there the next day. “We travel non-stop for three months all over the country every year. Coming to Portsmouth is always a high point because we get to relax, give thanks, connect with the community and contribute to a great cause,” said Dan Ohnsman, the Warren Miller Road Crew manager.
So mark your calendars, get your canned goods, get ready to plunge for a great cause, and come to Wallis Sands on noon on Wednesday!
