Let’s Be Helpers
While talking about the fire and sharing our State Street memories on Monday, my friend Kristi reminded me of the Mr. Rogers quote “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” Monday morning, as the firefighters and first responders were still hard at work, many people sprung into action. As of writing today’s blog, the Go Fund Me page had raised almost $20,000, to help the people who lost their homes and jobs. Our friends at The Seacoast Rep have become a drop off location for needed items and have encouraged people to donate gift cards to places like Target and Hannafords. BRGR Bar, Block Six (the restaurant at 3S), and the Portsmouth Brewery are offering free meals to those affected. The Weekender House is donating mattresses. This town is coming together in a way that is so uniquely Portsmouth.
So let’s be helpers. You can make monetary donations here, you can drop off gift cards, snacks, and other items (at this time they aren’t collecting furniture or clothing) to the Seacoast Rep (125 Bow St, Portsmouth), and you can thank the businesses who are donating free meals and items, for a list of everything being offered and ways to help click here. If you work or lived there, stop by The Music Hall when you’re in need of a distraction and see some movies on us. It’s been a rough week for Portsmouth, and it’s going to be a while before things feel normal, but it’s good to know that just as Statey was there for us when we needed it, we’re all here for it now. #StateyStrong
