Thank you for Filling the Hall!
From 9am in the morning straight through til 5pm people showed up one after another with bags and bags of food. At 11am we had filled at 528 seats in the orchestra level by 2pm we had filled all 900 seats, from there we moved on to fill the stage. By the end of the day we had collected over five tons of food. To put that in perspective, five tons is equal to 10,000 pounds and that translates into 5000 meals. The SFFP now has overflowing shelves and will be able to provide around 200 local children healthy meal options from now until school starts.
Margaret Mead once said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” and the group that came together to Fill the Hall certainly did. We would like to thank Denise Wheeler who was the driving force and visionary behind this event, who approached us a month ago with this idea and shepherded it through. We’d also like to thank all of our drop off locations, The Blue Mermaid Island Grill, BRGR Bar, Patrick Kelly hair design, Rye Elementary School, INHOUSE Worldwide, everyone over at The Portsmouth Farmers Market, to name a few of the many. As well as Jay McSharry for challenging your restaurants to donate, the bags and bags your teams collected played a huge part in the success of this. Lastly, I’d like to once again thank each and every one of you who stopped by with your bags, volunteered your time, shared the event on your social networks, and supported our efforts.
If you were unable to join us on Saturday but still want to donate (and they are still in need of donations) you can drop of your donations to any Seacoast Area Library throughout the month.
