Reading Recommendations from the Literary Ladies
If you ask us what we consider “essential,” books would be toward the top of our lists. It’s odd to see me or Brittany without a book in arm’s reach! So we thought we’d share some reading recommendations to help keep the stir-crazy at bay.
The Splendid and The Vile by Erik Larson
Erik Larson’s new book on Winston Churchill’s leadership during the Blitz is not only well written and researched, but also it’s incredibly relevant to the current climate. I hope you will join us for his Writers on a New England Stage event when we’ve worked out a new date!
I Really Needed This Today by Hoda Kotb
Hoda’s collection of inspiring and comforting quotes warmed our hearts when she visited in October, and we keep returning to her stories again and again.
Wow, No Thank You by Samantha Irby
While our event with the hilarious Samantha was canceled due to the pandemic, that’s not going to stop us from laughing out loud safe at home! Samantha delivers the humor we need with a healthy dose of reality. This New York Times article says it all.
The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead
This suggestion comes from Dawn Heffron, The Music Hall’s Book Club moderator. Colson’s powerful book will leave a lasting impact, which is why it’s on all three of our lists!
Don’t forget The Great Alone will be the next book club read. Celebrate another great year of reading with us on June 8! Read more about our book club here.
We hope to see you all as soon as it’s safe to do so, but until then Happy Reading!
