Spring brings books, authors & rock stars to The Music Hall!

This morning, the air felt much warmer than 37 degrees and I could already see some green poking through in my garden. I then curled up with my iced coffee (this New Englander stubbornly drinks iced all winter long) and Peter Wolf’s memoir on the couch—a delightful way to start the day!
I find Peter Wolf’s book, Waiting on the Moon, to be a love letter to artists and creative types, with essays about folks like Bob Dylan, Marilyn Monroe, David Lynch, Van Morrison, Andy Warhol, Julia Child, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, and of course, the J. Geils Band. Peter reads the audiobook, too, if that’s your preferred format.
Plus, the praise from music legends is wild! Bob Dylan said, “This book reads like a fast train and you’ll get a glimpse of everyone passing by through the windows … This memoir has been a long time coming and it’s Pete’s great painting.” And Music Hall favorite Elvis Costello said, “This is the book I’ve been hoping Peter Wolf would write since we walked the streets of Paris together, back in the twentieth century. A true account of his life, love, and music told with unique humor and rare humility.”
I’m excited to hear him speak about his thrilling life on Tuesday, March 18 with NHPR’s Rick Ganley, and I hope to see many of you there!
We’ve also dropped in 4 new events in the last week, so I hope you’re subscribed to our weekly newsletter for the latest! One is Jeanine Cummins, author of American Dirt, with her new book, Speak to Me of Home, on May 15. Jeanine will be our next Writers on a New England Stage, which, did I mention, iscelebrating 20 years this fall! We’ll be celebrating all year, so stay tuned for more like Peter and Jeanine. In the meantime, check out the Writers on a New England Stage podcast.
More literary fun: Olivie Blake will be our first author event in the Members Club, so if you’d like to check out the space (even if you’re not a member!) and hear from a rising star in the literary world, please join us on April 6!
On April 29, bestselling author Jennifer Haigh will take us to Shanghai in Rabbit Moon, and will be joined by fellow
author Amy Grace Loyd. Craig Johnson returns to Portsmouth on June 3 with the latest Longmire book; Former Chief of Staff to President George H.W. Bush, Jean Becker will share some of his wisdom and leadership on June 8; and in July, Ben Shattuck will share some New England stories from The History of Sound, which is soon to be a film starring Paul Mescal (Normal People) and Josh O’Connor (Challengers), directed by Oliver Hermanus (Living).
I suspect there will be a few more surprises dropping in, so keep an eye out! I hope to see you in one of our venues soon, and until then, Happy Reading!
