The Color of Wow
One of these eye-popping kitchens resides in The Barton Home. Talk about a wow factor. So much of Portsmouth is steeped in antiquity. And we love the historical nature of this city and this region. We love it, and we are proud of it. But what fun would this tour be if every home and every kitchen looked the same?
That is decidedly not a concern at The Barton Home. This is not your mother’s kitchen, my friends. Unless you’re one of the fortunate Barton children, that is. This kitchen has big, wonderful splashes of bright color, a hip design, and a very inviting and upbeat feel. One gets the feeling that a lot of fun goes on in this home.
Let’s start with the refrigerator. Of course, at first blush, one isn’t really sure where the refrigerator is. Until, that is, you are told it resides behind that big and bright blue façade along the wall. Just to the left of the oven and microwave. The microwave is the one covered in a mirror. Isn’t this fun? And it doesn’t stop there. Beauteous colors just pop in this kitchen. The lighting over the island is bright red. The cabinetry is light blue.
And the wallpaper? Let me put it this way: Do you know how some people dress using different colors and patterns in their outfits and they always look runway fabulous? (I know if I tried to pull that off people would suppose what I was wearing was all that I could find among the clean clothes.) How do these special people know it will come off with such flair, such je ne sais quoi? These people just do. And this kitchen designer and homeowner just did. Because along with the bold and blue refrigerator and the light blue cabinetry and the composite cork flooring there is this wallpaper that looks like a forest. It’s a shade of white with all these vertical trees in shades of gray. And how does all this look together? Well, it looks pretty amazing. Je ne sais quoi.
All you Kitchen Touristas are really going to enjoy seeing this kitchen. Besides all the modern vibrancy, there’s also a lot of space. The kitchen is home to a big, welcoming circular dinner table and is positioned just above a spacious, comfortable living area. This is a wonderful and wonderfully interesting home. And here’s a kicker: the good folks who live here almost tore it down before opting to remodel instead. Excellent decision.
