Why You Will Love The Big Sick
None of this plot discussion is a spoiler because The Big Sick is based on the real-life story of Kumail Nanjiani (familiar for his role on HBO’s Silicon Valley) and Emily Gardner, co-writers of the movie. The fabulous cast includes Kumail as himself, Zoe Kazan as Emily, and Ray Romano and Holly Hunter as Emily’s parents. As well, legendary Indian actor Anupam Kher plays Kumail’s father.
If you’re still on the fence about seeing The Big Sick, consider that indie films open the door to inter-generational dialogue. Boomers like me enjoy pop culture as a reveal to the talent of younger generations, and as a conversation starter with our millennial kids, colleagues, and friends.
Kumail and Emily’s touching story gives us hope that younger generations can still live the American Dream. See it at The Music Hall Historic Theater starting Saturday, September 9.
